Support for Family and Friends
Individual therapy is essential for those who have loved ones in treatment for addiction, as it provides a space to navigate the emotional complexities of this experience. It allows individuals to process feelings of stress, guilt, sadness, or even anger that may arise from their loved one’s struggles. Therapy also helps them develop coping strategies, set healthy boundaries, and gain a deeper understanding of addiction and its effects. By prioritizing their own mental health, individuals can better support their loved ones’ recovery journey while ensuring their own emotional well-being remains intact. This personal growth fosters resilience and strengthens the foundation for mutual healing.

Addiction is often described as a family disease because its impact extends far beyond the individual struggling with it. It affects relationships, trust, emotional well-being, and the dynamics within the entire family. Loved ones may experience stress, guilt, fear, or confusion, and these feelings can lead to cycles of conflict or unhealthy coping mechanisms. By understanding addiction as a shared challenge, families can work together to heal, provide support, and foster a healthier environment for everyone involved. Recovery isn't just about the person struggling with addiction, it's a journey that includes and transforms the whole family. Family members pursuing their own therapy is a crucial aspect of supporting addiction recovery. Therapy helps loved ones understand the dynamics of addiction and how it affects the entire family system. It provides a safe space for addressing their own emotions, struggles, and patterns, which can inadvertently influence the recovery journey. By healing themselves, family members can better offer empathy, support, and stability to their loved one who is trying to stay clean and sober. Additionally, therapy empowers families to build healthier boundaries and communication, creating an environment conducive to sustained sobriety and mutual growth.

Rule 62 states: Don’t take yourself too seriously- A reminder to stay humble, to laugh, and to embrace the small joys of life.
This sentiment has long resonated with us. By naming our practice after a rule about not taking ourselves too seriously, we sought to emphasize the value of humility, balance, and joy in everything we do. This choice reflects our belief that life—and even the serious work we undertake—should be approached with a sense of humor and perspective. It’s a reminder to stay grounded, embrace imperfections, and create a welcoming, authentic environment for our clients. This philosophy shapes not only how we approach challenges but also how we connect with others, fostering a culture of genuine care and positivity.
Rule 62 originated in the recovery community. As Sam began his career in substance abuse counseling, he was introduced to this idea early on and has long held onto this rule as one that can easily be applied to all.
Rule 62 Therapy is currently in-network with most CareFirst, BlueCross BlueShield, and Cigna Healthcare. If we are not in-network with your insurance provider, know that many insurance companies will provide out-of-network benefits and may reimburse between 50%-100% of the cost. R62 can provide a “super bill” that you can submit to your provider for reimbursement. Check with your particular insurance plan for more details.
